right at the end, when the police are taking him away in the car he utters the line:
"it's not the despair. i can handle the despair. it's the hope!"

That line's been one of my mantras my whole life. It's a particularly poignant and pithy one. I've said it to other people too, and just the day before yesterday the Fella said it back to me...
