I agree with the guy commenting at the bottomWe went to Battersea to discuss gettinga cat and they could not have been less helpful or more rude.
They expect you to give the cat 24hrs attention a day and never have holidays!
Cats are independent by their very nature and are quite happy pootelling about by themselves.

Eat them.Perhaps they could be marketed as nut free squirrel for hypo allergic type people. The fur could be used to make hoodies for chavs, and the little bells donated to morris dancers.
Everybody wins, and there is no waste.
