I'm appalled, but not suprised, at the decision. We should have told the Septics to fuck off.
His case, I think, should rest on proof of obtaining the data for criminal/terrorist purposes. If he was just hacking for UFO data, and he managed to access the secure machines, he should be given a job and a medal. The clowns who wrote the original security code should be the ones strung up.
I'm quite angry about this, does it show?

I wish the U.K. government would just tell them to piss off.
How can (ok illegally) obtaining info, which eventually proved to be fairly worthless warrant a 70 year jail term? Those darn yanks!
