Has anyone ever used ACP* to sedate a dog?
*Acepromazine

Our dog is so terrified when we take her to the vet, the vet recommended giving her 50mg of ACP an hour before taking her to the surgery. Which I did at 10.30 this morning (but stupidly stuffed the tablets in a tiny sausage roll - otherwise she coughs any tablets up). Consequently, the drugs were still sitting happily in the sausage roll when we took her for her appointment. The effects kicked in 3 hours ago and she is still stoned off her tits and can barely walk. I've looked the drug up on google and ask.com, but none of the info states how long the effects last. Bradycardia and hypotension are common side effects, so I'm keeping her warm.

Anyone got any advise?

Where is beckyconsonants???

EDIT/
I forgot DG has beckyletters' number! Bless her, she rang from work before with sterling help. Hurray for lovely people on b3ta! :-D

Ask these guys:
www.justanswer.com/questions/1bwac-long-50-mg-dose-acepromazine

Depends on the size of the dog but the vet that answered that said they'd seen it last up to six hours.

To be fair, I probably got lucky
It's more about the question you ask. If one thing doesn't work, try rewording your query.

How ya doin' Noel?
Were your pancakes nice? Is your stripey jumper washing alright? Hasn't shrunk or anything?
(, Sat 1 Aug 2009, 16:32, Reply)
Yeah the pancakes were fecking fantastic
We had Smarties (never fry Smarties), PB&J, plain yoghurt & sugar and white chocolate chip pancakes. They were very sweet this week. I sprinkled sugar on the last one before flipping it. Omnomnom caramel! The jumper is good, but not in use during these slightly warmer times :)

How're you and yours?

*feels hungry*
Son is away at a mates, dog is zonked, DG is flaked out on the couch with a knackered neck (he's drugged too - codydramol + ibuprofen). Reg the hamster is also asleep, but that's ok because he's nocturnal. Me? I've got a head full of white mice...... ;o)
