If you're a "serious" cider man (i.e., something like Weston's as a minimum, rather than this Magners/Bulmers silliness) then you might want to dip into ale - if price is an issue, they're almost always one of the cheapest options in the pub. And you get a huge range of flavours. The only foreseeable catch might be the alcoholic content as...well, they're beer-strength.
Though if that is the case, cancer joy is right - the Belgian stuff is usually stronger (though, conversely, it costs more in this country)

Ale could be a shout, although I've had so many 'bad' pints over the years, the thought of getting bladdered on ale doesn't sit comfortable.
