Best I can do I'm afraid
And as a lifelong Socialist I'd rather Blair died than Thatcher.

I learned all of my politics from Thatcher, in that whatever she said I instinctively disagreed with and learned to understand how to challenge both politically and intellectually.

It hurts me to say that she was probably the greatest Prime Minister we've ever had. Whilst what she did was abhorrent to most people, she believed in it and was absolutely incorruptible.

you forgot the part about her being an evil old whore...
but let's not fall out over it.
*sniggers*
so if she dies you won't be celebrating...

No, not really.
How many politicians - anywhere - can be said to possess and uphold integrity?

She did and she was steadfast to her misguided principles throughout her parliamentary career.

Less than a mile from where I'm sitting now Keir Hardie set out the cornerstones of what became the Labour Party. The party of the working man, the party of social improvement and compassion, the party of advancement.

The last Labour leader who showed even a vestigal appreciation of those cornerstones was Kinnock, and he ended up more engrossed in himself than the message.

My membership card - ripped into pieces with an abusive message - went back to Millbank after Kim Howells explained on March 3rd 1997 that new labour had nothing in common with Socialism.

So yes, having been sold down the river by my own party, I'll mourn someone who had the guts to stick to her beliefs.
