Obviously yes this is truebut what if you have a laptop? If you're just recording one or two mic feeds with a couple of other tracks being played back then the slight latency involved with the USB controller is not noticeable.

I'd assumed he was referring to a desktop PCBut yes, a laptop would merit getting an external one.
