you take a test in each subject, if you pass you are awarded a General Certificate of Secondary Education. The pass is graded (A,B,C..etc) like a normal test.

you just leave. You use the marks you get for your GCSE exams to apply for further study or jobs

from A-G, with U being the equivalent of a fail.
A-C is considered the grades to aim for, but if you get anything other than a U you're still considered passed.
We don't have official graduation in the UK, and if you do fail your GCSE's you have the option of going to 6th form (like a junior college) to re-take them, or find a job.
