I have only heardgood things about Canada. had a few pals move over there last year, they were tearful and unsure, a fortnight later they decided they would NEVER come back, so it must have something going for it. Proper seasons for a start, as opposed to the Spring then Autumn shite that Scotland gets.
As for running away, well, sometimes you need a bit of distance between you and your problems to truly see them and therefore decide how to deal with them. Not having a raise for 5 years is a pretty good reason to ask for one though....why stop at 5k ;-)

My father's fathermade a living painting landscapes over there in his retirement from killing Germans - we have some beautiful oils showing the amazing autumnal colours they get out there. Simply stunning.
