You could turn off images:Opera: View - Images - No Images
IE: Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - Show Pictures (In the Multimedia Section)
Firefox: Tools - Options - Content - Load Images Automatically
Safari: Preferences - Appearances - untick Display images when the page opens
Chrome: Needs a command line switch (see www.techdreams.org/tips-tricks/how-to-disable-loading-images-in-google-chromes/2288-20090412)

Not quiteI had to check the process for Safari and Chrome, I did do the rest from memory though! :-)
