So I'm busy looking at what I am meant to teach next term.
A lot of what we teach comes from the QCA who write schemes of work.
This term I am meant to be teaching this: www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/schemes2/it/itx2c/?view=get

I'm going to refuse. This scheme of work was written in 1998. I am not going to teach children about technology that was 5 years old when they were born.

Key idea: that CD-ROMs contain large amounts of information
The micro-SD card in my phone is the size of my little fingernail and holds 8GB - nearly 13 CDs worth.

Bloody show off
'Ooooh look at my wanky little phone, it can hold more photos and vidoes than a Hindu God at a Media Conference WANKWANKWANK'

It's still fairly relevant
but change the 'CD' bit to 'DVD'

When did you last search a DVD for information?
I really don't see the relevance of this to five year olds. DVDs will be a thing of the past before they leave primary school.

Easy
replace CD with Google and ask them to search for something they like.

The google auto-complete thing is good for seeing what they've searched for...especially if it's a curious eleven year old...who doesn't know yet how to clear his browsing history.

I'm guessing he's not really into ornithology despite searching for 'big tits'.
