I have a large pair of Sennheiser open back onesthat I use with my large guitar amp. the tone isn't great in comparison to the speaker itself, but it is sufficient. You need to be careful not to deafen yourself though

closed means you can't hear stuff from the outside, so DJs would want closed ones. sound projects more from open backed as well. I prefer the sound of them for enjoying music
