Your point above is most salient.
'Liking Oasis' became an adjunct to 'Liking The Football' for the UK's knuckle-draggers at some point, didn't it?

I have to own up to something at this point
when Oasis first came on the scene I thought they were awesome. I was rather young, and was only just getting into music. Subsequently I got hold of Metallica's black album, and through one battered tape of that turned most of my mates and myself into metallers.

Can't stand Oasis any more. It is not something I'm proud of, but I did love them, and not only a couple of albums, but I bought singles too...

We all make youthful mistakes, mate.
Apart from me, obv.

First two pieces of recorded music I bought were 'Johnny The Fox' by Thin Lizzy, and 'The Jimi Hendrix Album'. On cassette, WH Smiths, Winchester.

I seem to recall buying a 45 of Queen's Tie your mother down
from a jumble sale for 25p. fucking brilliant

some crappy compilation at some point. first proper album was Levellers' Levelling the Land and See Nothing, Hear Nothing, Do Something (the latter I sold to some mug for £40)

Good old mugs.
Funding the nation's weed habits since 1854....

For a period of about two years, I am ashamed to confess, I used to pinch my old man's records and sell them to a 2nd hand dealer in the town, and from there I would go to a '1st hand dealer' of another kind.

I'm not proud- and I am also really fucked off with myself, because when he moved to the US I'd have got them all anyway, and there were some extreme rarities in there.

indeed :-)
looking forward to a toke tonight. almost finished off the gear which I suspect had gone mouldy...

My brother did that with all my dad's records :(
I'm still tempted by £50 for my other brother's Wonderwall 12" though. I know he doesn't want it. Gonzo??

What I hate
About Oasis/The Jam/Kasabian et all is that if you're a football goer, and not the football goer who wears jester hats and football shirts, but a football goer like myself who doesn't dress like a twat and just enjoys sitting in the pub for hours on end getting pissed with mates (I support Fulham, you're not allowed to watch them sober under suicide prevention laws), it's as if there's a golden rule you have to like them. I hate all of them.

I'm seen as some sort of oddball by the rest of the pub I frequent on matchdays because I think Oasis are brain-dead idiots that make music for knuckledraggers.

I've had this argument a thousand times and I'll have it a thousand more. Oasis are shit and you don't have to like them and other bands for "lads and geezers" because you like football. Go and listen to some Daft Punk and chill the fuck out.

Rant over.

Barry
I like this. Can I call you Garry?

I lost some good friends
by having this argument over and over with them. They had a band and thought themselves the coolest. They weren't.
(, Fri 8 Jan 2010, 17:25, Reply)
Definitely maybe was a blast
And still is at the right moment. After that it went rapidly downhill as the arrogance took over. A band whose lyrics went "You can't be me.. I'm a rockstar" before they were famous can only go in one direction when famous.

'Definitely Not' would have been more appropriate.

Reminds me of my favorite record review
for "Yes" by Yes.

It went simply: NO.

Utter genius.
Up there with the review of 'Shark Sandwich' by Spinal Tap:

'Shit sandwich'
