The film "Magicians"
with Mitchell and Webb in the lead roles, which appeared to have sunk without trace shortly after its cinematic release. My flatmate found the DVD on sale a while ago, and we watched it with no expectation of anything great. In the end, we agreed, it was actually quite good.

Unfortunately, he then found Steve Martin's remake of The Pink Panther on DVD, and by the same logic, we thought we should at least see it. He had not seen the original film, I had, so we thought we'd be able to compensate for my bias towards the original film.

And after an hour and a half, we both agreed it was truly fucking awful and tantamount to Steve Martin waving his sweaty bollocks at the late Peter Sellers. At certain points I was embarrassed to even be in the same room as such an atrocious attempt at a comedy.

Is that film based on this book?....

It's a brilliant book if it is.

Don't think so;
I think the film was penned by the same guys who wrote Peep Show, and the brief description of said book sounds like something very different. Worth seeing; hardly ground-breaking comedy but enjoyable and quite funny without trying too hard.

Still, the book's worth reading, is it?

Yup, I loved it.

Perhaps I shall have to give it a try
If I am not satisfied I shall hold you personally responsible. But I may deign to thank you for the recommendation if I enjoy it.
