there are a few places worth trying
The Old Firehouse likes bands to play for a couple of hours on a friday night, they pay reasonably well though.

Audiences aren't great because people are mainly there because it's a pub rather than a music venue, but still worth pursuing.

We played in the Phoenix centre last saturday, but it's not easy to get a gig in there unless you know people. Fortunately we know several of the DJs from the radio station in the same building!

Other than that, Mama Stones is the only place. it's run by joss stone's mum, and is gay and expensive, and despite them talking a big game about supporting local bands we have yet to see much evidence of it
