If you read and post somewhere regularly
you get to know the people involved, and also jokes, terminology and references that the casual observer might not. Whilst that may give an impression of exclusivity, to my mind /OT is not deliberately cliquey, merely the result of associating with the same people over time.
For example, you might not know what I meant if I was to call you a shirter, but others would, using their highly developed 'shirtdar'.
It's not personal.

It's a very specific phobia. So rare that I am yet to make up a name for it, although shirtophobia is out in front at the minute.
