just going to put blaireau69's admition of assault in a thread he can't delete
I'm all shook up, having just been involved in an altercation.
I caught a scrawny yoof trying to liberate stuff from the back of my van.
When I challenged him (oy, what the fuck?) instead of doing el nasho grande he decided to attack me!
I'm not the smallest of blokes so was a little surprised by this course of action.
There was a minor tussle and the scrawny yoof found himself on the ground with, I suspect, a couple of broken ribs. I came out of it unharmed but my right hand is a little sore.
I really did thump him about as hard as I could, seriously conscious of trying to hurt him rather than just defend myself. This disturbs me.
I feel a bit sick now.

What has disturbed you today?

Wasn't really an admission of assault, was it?
Like I said, I was attacked by someone trying to rob my bodies out of my van and I defended myself, albeit with more than a little vigour.
Haven't deleted a thread in months.

"I really did thump him about as hard as I could, seriously conscious of trying to hurt him rather than just defend myself."
You could get away with use of reasonable force to defend yourself. So yes, this is pretty much an admission of assault, regardless of whether he was trying to rob you or not.

reasonable force is the embuggerance there
you might have a hard time proving that it was, even if the guy was trying to rob you
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 16:27, Reply)
This is true.
However, the admittance that he was actually consciously trying to hurt the guy sort of makes the reasonable force argument moot.

maybe my phrasing wasn't clear
I was agreeing with you. it's hard to prove reasonable force when you've broken someone's ribs

Especially an unarmed minor.

And vicious trained canaries.

You should have kicked his eyes out
and added him to the collection of stiffs in the back of the van! The thieving cunt.
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 16:27, Reply)
Yes it is,
if you wanted to hurt him rather than defend yourself or someone else it's assault.
