I went to see Emilie Autumn last night.
It was phenomenal. Beautiful women in very little yet gorgeous clothing making fantastic music, getting off with each other and spraying rum into the audience. Plus, a chance to get all dressed up in my new corset.

It was very nearly the best gig I've been to. Would have been if there'd been signing after, but I had to make do with a poster.

What's the best gig you've ever been to?
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 15:40, 184 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
I have no idea what you're banging on about.
Best individual gig was probably Greenday at the MK bowl.
It was great because so many of my friends were there and it was amazing weather

just going to put blaireau69's admition of assault in a thread he can't delete
I'm all shook up, having just been involved in an altercation.
I caught a scrawny yoof trying to liberate stuff from the back of my van.
When I challenged him (oy, what the fuck?) instead of doing el nasho grande he decided to attack me!
I'm not the smallest of blokes so was a little surprised by this course of action.
There was a minor tussle and the scrawny yoof found himself on the ground with, I suspect, a couple of broken ribs. I came out of it unharmed but my right hand is a little sore.
I really did thump him about as hard as I could, seriously conscious of trying to hurt him rather than just defend myself. This disturbs me.
I feel a bit sick now.

What has disturbed you today?
( blaireau69 has a very suspicious van with bodies in..., Fri 12 Mar 2010, 15:13, Ignore, Reply, I like this!)

(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 15:46, Reply)
Wasn't really an admission of assault, was it?
Like I said, I was attacked by someone trying to rob my bodies out of my van and I defended myself, albeit with more than a little vigour.
Haven't deleted a thread in months.

"I really did thump him about as hard as I could, seriously conscious of trying to hurt him rather than just defend myself."
You could get away with use of reasonable force to defend yourself. So yes, this is pretty much an admission of assault, regardless of whether he was trying to rob you or not.
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 16:22, Reply)
reasonable force is the embuggerance there
you might have a hard time proving that it was, even if the guy was trying to rob you
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 16:27, Reply)
This is true.
However, the admittance that he was actually consciously trying to hurt the guy sort of makes the reasonable force argument moot.
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 16:31, Reply)
maybe my phrasing wasn't clear
I was agreeing with you. it's hard to prove reasonable force when you've broken someone's ribs

Depends on criteria for best gig
Robert Plant & Strange Sensation In Brizzle was amazing for quality of performance and sheer unadulterated excellence.
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 15:43, Reply)
Performance, performer, atmosphere
I suppose. What else is there?
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 15:46, Reply)
as chompy says
weather etc. can play a part. who you have attended with. whether you are on drugs and if that helped.

for example, by some criteria, massive attack was my best, because I was with some french people I didn't know, in denmark, smoking hash through a pipe in the sun, which was great, but performance and quality of musicwise, they can't match any of the times I've seen metallica for instance.
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 15:49, Reply)
I also think that the gigs that you decide to go to at the last minute are better.
Because you haven't built your hopes up.
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 15:51, Reply)
that's a good point
I'd actually forgotten about the Robert Plant one until that day, and it left me literally speechless it was so good.
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 15:52, Reply)
Could be Metallica
But I'd say it was probably Chimaira & Killswitch Engage. Killswitch were touring their 2nd album, and it was just a great laugh.

Honourable mention for Less Than Jake though, followed by everyone robbing the bootleggers outside, haha.
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 15:46, Reply)
Kasabian and The Music for my 21st birthday
Stood in the VIP area, Tom Meighan walked past grinning full on at me and touched my arm, The Music came on and I love them, they had a massive drum kit and the whole band played a set on them, it was amazing.
edit: I think it was so great because it was the first concert that I had been to that I had really really wanted to go to, everything else before and since has been more about friends asking me to go. None of my friends listen to the same music as I do so I can't go with them and have as good of a time.

Unfortunately I missed Bauhaus on their recent tour.
Sad times :(

My brother went to two shows
One was brilliant, one terrible, apparently.

Bit odd, eh?

I've got a couple of bootleg live tapes somewhere
The quality is shite but it's quite something to hear the Sisters rocking out 'Jolene' and 'Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight'.

And their cover of Emma is a work of beauty.

The Magic Band
Of Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band fame. At The Junction in Cambridge sometime mid 2000s.

I saw these guys in Edinburgh, Liquid Rooms
Brilliant gig, with Rockette Morten bouncing about like he had St. Vitus Dance. I thought Drumbo done the vocals pretty well, although no one, absolutely NO ONE can sing Electricity like the Captain can. Excellent gig though!

Drumbo was pretty awesome I thought, yeah
But for me I just stood there mouth agape looking at Gary Lucas.

Placebo at Northumbria uni.
Levellers & Chumbawamba at Newcastle Mayfair (bonus points, got in free).
Young Gods at Newcastle Riverside.
Mudhoney at same venue.
Violent Femmes at same venue.
Frank Sidebottom at same venue. (I did a work experience there and got into a LOT of gigs as payment).
Pop Will Eat Itself at Newcastle Uni.

And many, many more...

Oh right - I forgot that.
Monty is right. Prince is a greasy midget and I meant to say that it was Marc Almond I saw and loved.
Oh and
Top Five Prince Girls in order:

2. Cat
3. Carmen Electra
4. Patricia Kotero (Appolonia)

At a Floral Pavillion near you very soon.

Hmm.
Foo Fighters at Wembley with Led Zeppelin was probably the pinnacle, but I've been to some excellent festival sets too.

The absolute worst ever, twice, were Incubus, and that really upset me. Feckin' Brandon Boyd.

Oh noes
they're one of the few bands on my all-time favourites list who I haven't seen yet. Think the list is down to just 4 now, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Incubus and Smashing Pumpkins.
EDIT: oooh, and Radiohead
(, Fri 12 Mar 2010, 16:58, Reply)
Trust me, bloke
Incubus are fucking awful live. Seriously, when I saw them they came on stage, didn't say a word to the crowd, and then fucked off again. Both times. The only time the crowd got going was when he took his shirt off, and that was only for the girls to go "AAAAAH!"
