of course it's possible to teach an instrument without qualifications
I don't have any guitar qualifications, have a D in GCSE music, and have taught, to some extent at least.

Fairly sure my guitar teacher had no qualifications, but he was a fucking good teacher.

Everybody who I've shown a few guitar chords to
and been a bit strict with has gone on to play like Jimi Bleedin Hendrix and I'm STILL pants.

that's unfortunate

I have no ambition.
I go "I can comfortably play to this level. Any further would require too much pain and practise." *stops*

I haven't 'practised' for years
playing with other people is the way to get better.

No, that just makes me sing and leave the guitar to them

I couldn't agree with this more.
Surround yourself with musicians better than you and you will find yourself hauling ass to catch up. That's why I'm currently trying to find a jazz band to play in.

Would you want to play guitar and do you live in or near South London?

(, Wed 31 Mar 2010, 9:55, Reply)
Yes I would and no I don't.
I'm a Brizzle boy I'm afraid.

Oh well
The violinist from my old jazz band was talking about trying to revive the project later this year, after she's moved house. We need a guitarist who would fit in with the 'electric gypsy' style we ended up with after several years of trying.

Bugger, that sounds good too...
I'm well into Django Reinhardt at the moment so could have got right into the gypsy jazz thing.

Well, if you will insist on living in the wrong city...
