Miles Davis's "On The Corner" is worth a spin, even if it's just the once.It's got a lot of Sly Stone and Indian classical influences and it's pretty thorny stuff, so most jazz purists hate it. I like Herbie Hancock's "Sextant" too, for similar reasons; plus I'm a big fan of analogue synths, mellotrons and the like.
