Ughsad times. I wept uncontrollably for about two weeks when my cat died, even though I kept trying to rationalise: 'it's just a cat!'. Nope. Still sobbed like a ginger stepkid.

There is no such thing as "just a cat".Animals become part of your family, sometimes closer than your siblings. "Just a cat" denotes to me a complete lack of a soul in the person who truly means it. They may be small and furry, but they're people too.
We have to mourn our pets just as much as we mourn our human friends.
