The missus wants freeview, and I don't have a clue. We don't give a fuck about HD, just want to be able to record progs. I take it from the name that once you've bought the box, it's free, right?
Anyone got a decent set-top box they'd recomend? don't want to spend a fortune.
Cheers!

you want a hard disc recorder with freeview built in.
Oh and you should make sure it's HD because more and more stuff is going that way.

I'd try the box first and then decide.

and hooked it up to the telly. I can record two channels at once, pause live tv, rewind live tv and cos its a computer I can put loads of movies etc. Most computers these days have a dvi output which is hdmi without the sound so you can get a dvi to hdmi cable and hook it up and use a regular 3.5mm jack cable for the audio. Most freeview boxes won't let you record unless you go super expencive. upgrading an old pc cost me less than 50 quid

I'll run that little vignette past my Gran and see if she can get a TV card for her laptop? If she can't, I'll take it away and throw it through your fucking window.

He's usually nicer than this.
Anyway, if you grab something sub £100 in this area, you might be running the risk of it going kaput more easily. Having said that my Dad got a £100 quid job from Argos and it's still going strong.

However if I was being slightly rude then you were being rather more rude than that. For example whilst I may have suggested that someone can find things for themselves using their computer, you suggested that you would throw your Grandmothers laptop through my fucking window. If you were to do this could you wait until my daughter is out? She's only 2 and broken glass flying about might scare her a tad, thanks.

the recorder part of them is rather good.
this is from experiencing them vicariously. I've got the Virgin HD+ box, which is really good.
