It has given me flashbacks of my first year at uni
listening to all the travel bores who spent a gap year travelling the world.

god I got sick of that too
"oh, you didn't go travelling?"
"no thanks, I get to meet enough pretentious English wankers in this country without having to share a fucking hostel dorm with them"

A gap year was never going to happen for me
At 18 I had £1000 in the bank that I had scraped together over a period of...18 years. I wasn't eligible for a grant but I wanted to go to uni.

I don't envy students today.

I had a gap year
but I spent it surfing, designing websites and consuming vast quantities of booze.

I meant a gap year doing something exotic
like pretending to teach kids English in Thailand or pretending to build a charity centre in Costa Rica.
