Sitting chatting after a meal with friends, one of our party recounted something they'd read in a book about poor families in Belfast in days of yore when women would basically have kids until they dropped dead. The book mentioned one old woman (mother to small army) who was sat by the fire one evening, decided to get up to make a cup of tea ... and her uterus fell out. Apparently she didn't bat an eyelid, just scooped it up with a shovel and threw it on the fire.

I don't know if this is true or even possible but it had me in tears and near hysterical laughter which took hours to subside.
