Fantasy rather than Sci fi so orcs and goblins over borg,
favourite author David Gemmell but I'll read anything. I also am gonna get nailed for this but I really enjoy John Grisham and Wilbur Smith but my dad read them to me as a boy.

The Liveship ones, the Farseer ones, and the Soldier Son ones. All great.
Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth is worth a bash as well.

James Barclay is very good for fantasy.
Also, as long as you don't mind every single major character dying horribly at some point, George R R Martin's Game of Thrones series.

I could do with some new stuff to be fair. I am on amazon now any particualrly good ones to start with?
If you haven't read it I can't reccommend The Lion of Macedon by David Gemmell enough. My favourite book of his.
