I think there was a lot more to it that meets the eye. I can see why you don't quite believe it. Some facts I've put together since waking up:
- The police lied quite a few times, I reckon. They interviewd a mate I was playing pool with and told him I'd been arrested two days previously. Last time I was arrested was in early '07 for a fairly minor driving offense. The line of questioning kept changing too - at first the police were interested in a completely different area of town. Then there's the "carrying a wing mirror" thing. The neighbour who supposedly reported that lives some way from the spot of vandalism, in fact right round a 90 degree corner and someway up the road away. Something doesn't add up. Apparently this neighbour'd seen me many times passing by and knew where I lived. I don't know
them at all. Something's creeping me out here.
- At four am during the final questioning the police announced that they had an eyewitness account of a shaven headed youth in a tracksuit (definitely not me) kicking bits off cars where the vandalism happened. After this the mood changed and the police became a lot nicer to me.
- The sargeant mentioned ripping up the report like they were embarrassed about it, and then only gave me a warning, not a caution, for the weed, so I've effectively got no criminal record after last night at all. This was surprising after being cuffed tightly then thrown in the cells with little information as to why by two tooled up policemen, one of whom had a stun gun and one of whom had kicked in a panel on my front door (to get to the lock).
- They spoke to me a lot about the cannabis, despite such a small amount being found and it having nothing to do with the offense I was supposedly arrested for.
This is all going round in my mind at 100mph. What the fuck? Luckily I think the police were keen to draw a line under it all and I think I can get the door repaired before my parents get back.
