nothing is any use whatsoever at "getting rid" of a cold.
bar a powerful antiviral, and they aren't much use once the virus is in your body.

Some things relieve the symptoms. However, vitamin C and Zinc are not in that list.

I found eating a bag of sweet chilli crisps used to make me feel a bit better when I was full of a cold

I'm sure it did.
It's still not actually doing much. Although chili is a fairly effective decongestant, so it's probably relieving some symptoms. but that won't change the length of time you have the cold for.

Well no it didn't cure anything
but it made me feel better for a while, it was especially useful when I was working and didn't want to feel as crappy.

what is on the list oh mighty furry one?

The usual. NSAIDs/painkillers. decongestants.
And generally maintaining your immune system, so staying hydrated and eating healthily.

the rest is just psychosomatic. If booze makes you feel better, drink booze. etc.
