Doesn't quite answer the questionbut the best film I have seen for *yonks* is Mr Nobody. Despite it being a big-budget English-language film ($56m) it never got cinematic release in the UK and also is unavailable on DVD here (although you can get it from France I believe) so this is one case where downloading it (there are lots of torrents available) is recommended.
See it ! It is completely aces and you will *not* have seen a film like it before, I promise you. Everyone I have shown it to (the film, not my knob !) loves it.
