Just been been sent to my work email account:
tinyurl.com/highspeeddriving
Aparently a group of employees have convinced the company to let them auction a day out as a Train Driver (along with some Eurostar Tickets, some gadgets and the usual spa day). All proceeds go to the Princes Trust.
So if you fancy experiencing 140mph through the Kent Countryside ('cause I know some of you are closet trainspotters) have a look.

Do they breathalyse you if you strongly smell of alcohol, what with it being for charity and all

Surprisingly - being drunk and train driving doesn't mix - the powers that be kind of frown alot.

Well, if you're going to take a 20mph curve at 65mph... it's not going to end well.

He died happy.
After the amount he'd drunk he should have been happy.
Shame about the passengers.

...deserves to be strung up - it was different in the olden days, so I'm told.
It makes you think when you reach your destination and 1,500 people pile off your train - all your responsibility for getting them where they need to go safety and (sort of) on time.

Was the one that changed everything.
I don't know how much you know about the history of that incident but the driver was a Hither Green man who was ratarsed by the time he stacked the train. He'd been drinking all day and was known to have been drinking in the cab.
After that things tightened up a lot but I still know some alarming stories into the 90's from certain SOP's.
