Does he like Motorhead?
He knows about your situation, he can't be upset with you.

My sister "got" me for Christmas last year a lot of her clothes that she had bought and barely used because she got too fat. She was going to give them to charity. She almost doesn't have any money, so I didn't take it badly (but I'll remind her one day in the future)

Last year I got terribly expensive soaps from Mark's parents, I know they spent at least £100 in soap, and I kept thinking "ffs, I know this soap is good, but there are so many things I'd rather do with £100!"

He might feel the same about the wine.
