I'm afraid I have to disagree
I can categorically, hand on heart, say that my mobile phone has changed my life.

I'm a doctor so I have all of my clinics and meetings in the calendar. If I'm in the pub and friends want to arrange a party or dinner - no problem - I have my diary right with me on my phone.

I've been ordered to go shopping by my girlfriend. I'm not sure I'm buying the right thing so I take a photo of it, send it to gf's phone. Problem solved.

Bored on the tube/bus/waiting room? I have chess, poker and an MP3 player on my phone.

I also work in the music industry. I'm on the train to the recording studio (takes a couple of hours) and my producer can send works in progress via email which I can play before emailing my opinions back to him.

Bored of the games? Piss around on the internet for a while.

My mobile phone rocks. (I feel the need to add that it's not an iphone).
