This is a question Phobias

What gives you the heebie-jeebies?

It's a bit strong to call this a phobia, but for me it's the thought of biting into a dry flannel. I've no idea why I'd ever want to or even get the opportunity to do so, seeing as I don't own one, but it makes my teeth hurt to think about it. *ewww*

Tell us what innocent things make you go pale, wobbly and send shivers down your spine.

Telephones
And making calls thereon. All comes back to the whole self-confidence thing.

I'm fine if someone calls me, but when I need to call someone (certainly for anything significant), I'll end up spending 10 minutes planning out the conversation before I can bring myself to lift the receiver.

Does the call ever go the way I expect? No - but it doesn't matter, because once I'm talking, I'm fine. But actually getting to the stage of making the call - not so good.

Even worse.....
Getting an answering machine and having to leave a message when you're not expecting it.

Ah - that's fine
Got the emergency message all prepared for answer machines. Aaand of course it gets them to call you back.

Strange really - I'm quite happy on the phone when I don't have a chance to work myself up into a frenzy, or if I'm flustered about something else. Ah well...

I'm sort of the opposite --
I don't like it when people call me when I'm not expecting them to, and I become brusque and dismissive. I don't like talking on the phone, so when I do it has to be on my terms - I'm the one who has to initiate the call.

stupid phones
Oh my god, thought I was the only one with this. I work in an office, and prefer to email people where I can. My boss, who hasn't yet embraced email technology is baffled by my aversion to the phone. But the job gets done (usually - I am a civil servant :)) in the end.
