This is a question Phobias

What gives you the heebie-jeebies?

It's a bit strong to call this a phobia, but for me it's the thought of biting into a dry flannel. I've no idea why I'd ever want to or even get the opportunity to do so, seeing as I don't own one, but it makes my teeth hurt to think about it. *ewww*

Tell us what innocent things make you go pale, wobbly and send shivers down your spine.

No, not the Babes in Toyland album, the top of a baby’s head.

For some reason, whenever I see small babies, I’m scared that I’ll poke them in the top of the head where their skull hasn’t closed.

Not deliberately, you understand, I don’t want to hurt them, but supposed my hand slipped? What would I do? What if I fell over with a pen in my hand? It’s so scary. Babies are scary. I like babies but they scare me.

I should probably stop thinking about this. I should definitely stop typing.

I so hope this is a normal fear
because I understand what you mean. Though, I also think "what if I chucked the baby out the window/against the wall/under a bus" - not that I'd want to, ever, not in a million years, but oh dear lord, what if I did? I can't even bear to thin out my tomato seedlings so how the hell I could inflict harm on anything mammalian is beyond me, but what if?

thank god...
its not just me then. thing is i have a kid now, hes two almost now, but for those first few weeks i too was freaked by the skull gap thing - it gets worse though, you can see stuff *throbbing* and eventually - no matter how freaked you are. you do touch it.

a very very gentle click

Don't read
The Wasp Factory. (Interestingly enough I have tried to type this reply several times and my rat keeps closing the webpage or deleting this. Clearly he is a proud patriot and wants you to read Iain Banks sicko novel.) :)

Had that too, with my own and other peoples kids. Its not malicious, but if I was a bit clumsy...

Relax folks
there's a layer of really really tough membrane under there! Its (I'm told) pretty hard to do them any harm - unless you mean to, and why would you?

I love babies. Babies love me. I sometimes want another baby, then common sense kicks in!

I think it's a normal fear. When my screaming gits sons were babies I used to have a fear I'd throw them on the open fire. I never did, obviously. But they set fire to the house themselves when they were able to walk.

Ah...happy memories...
