This is a question The Police II

Enzyme asks: Have you ever been arrested? Been thrown down the stairs by the West Midlands Serious Crime Squad, with hi-LAR-ious consequences? Or maybe you're a member of the police force with chortlesome anecdotes about particularly stupid people you've encountered.
Do tell.

...we had a near-riot where I live. Normally, it's a sleepy middle-class suburb, but the working men's club nearby had been hosting a 21-year old's birthday party (in contravention of their license, natch) and a gang of rival yoof had turned up and it all kicked off as eveyone came out of the club at midnight.

Now, the first police car to turn up had in it a female officer and a male officer. As the female officer tended to the wounded, the male officer, single-handed, attempted to calm down a couple of hundred drunken idiots.

And he actually did a pretty good job of it, in the 10 minutes it took for backup to arrive. Serious kudos to that man.

Final count - two hours of disturbance, 10 police vehicles, one dog unit, one helicopter, one ambulance, one injured (superficially, luckily), 4 convictions for affray.

Nope, not High Brooms I'm afraid.
One amusing thing came out at the subsequent licensing hearing. The club in question had previously been in trouble and was required to keep a register of the name and address of everyone in the club, signing in via a big book.

When the police retrieved the register for the night in question, it basically read: "Baz" "Baz's mates" "Shaz" "Shaz's mates" "Tanker" "Wizzer" "[Estate] Posse" "Ernie the Blaydz" etc. etc. etc.

Tired brain.
I read Normally as Normandy, as in 'where I live, Normandy,'

I saw an episode of Time Team where they made a bridle or something for a Norman Knight's horse, and apparently Norman rode ponies... so how hard can they be? So, a police related kerfuffle in Normandy, involving ponies, held unimagined comedic possibility.

Then I continued reading, and my brain skipped back a few words and realised it was 'Normally', so I thought 'This can never live up to the expectations I had when I thought it was set in Normandy'. So, I stopped reading to avoid the inevitable disappointment.

But have a click anyway, my old china plate.

I shall move to Normandy forthwith.
I also resolve to use the word "forthwith" more often.
