This is a question Political Correctness Gone Mad

Freddy Woo writes: "I once worked on an animation to help highlight the issues homeless people face in winter. The client was happy with the work, then a note came back that the ethnic mix of the characters were wrong. These were cartoon characters. They weren't meant to be ethnically anything, but we were forced to make one of them brown, at the cost of about 10k to the charity. This is how your donations are spent. Wisely as you can see."

How has PC affected you? (Please add your own tales - not five-year-old news stories cut-and-pasted from other websites)

I've just been told
of a shopping mall in Australia that has banned its Santa Claus from saying "Ho ho ho" incase that is offencive to women.

I'd love it if someone could confirm this.

PC - yup
Yes, unfortunately, in the land where you can happily call the nations favourite cheese Coon, you cannot use an "African-American" Hip-hop rap-crap slang for a prostitute as a character that has been around & saying it since the '30's - Christ I hate wankers!

I'm about to put my hand up (again) to play Santa for our local shops & will be happily giving it as much "ho-ho-ho" as possible & the first to question it will find out just how many house bricks I have in my sack!

Yeah, I read this too.
The thing is, these types of stories are harmless tales of interest that get the mall into international news. It happens every year (see changing the name of Christmas to Winter Festival etc) and is a very good way of raising awareness of any commercial entity.

Oh Fuck
It's true.

Santas warned 'ho ho ho' offensive to women

Wed Nov 14, 11:04 PM ET

SYDNEY (AFP) - Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.

Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.

One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.

"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.

"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho, ho" has any other connotation and nor should they," she told the Telegraph.

"Leave Santa alone."

A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.

true fax
you have to say 'ha ha ha' should you be a shopping centre santa this christmas.

This is a case
where one person has been a bit stupid, or perhaps was even just playing a joke on these santas. Either way, the company has made it clear that it's not their idea or policy.
So if you want to get into the news just make up something like this and start telling people off. Every tabloid newspaper and internet messageboard in the world will be reporting your words within days.
