Prejudice
"Are you prejudiced?" asks StapMyVitals. Have you been a victim of prejudice? Are you a columnist for a popular daily newspaper? Don't bang on about how you never judge people on first impressions - no-one will believe you.

One of the few things that I'm fairly ashamed of is that I make very quick assumptions of people (regarding their intelligence in particular) based on the way they speak.
Mainly, if I hear someone speak with an accent that I associate with chavs (I'm from Saahf Eeest Lahndahn) I tend to assume that they are thick as pigshit.
I know this isn't the case, I've had various opinions and argument completely and justly shot down by speakers of such annoying patois. But it makes no difference; whenever I hear that kind of speech, it makes me think of young mothers telling their 2 year old kids to "SHADDAP! I SAID SHADDAP!"

Quite so.
If they don't wish to be seen as thick, they should learn to speak properly.

Precisely!
Intelligent people, who want to be recognised as such, should be aware that the way you speak is a prime factor in how you're judged.
It's difficult to take someone seriously when they're speaking Chav. Even if what they're saying is pure gold - the fact that it's peppered with "innit"s will detract from the point.

or redneck
I saw some footage of a very bright university chap giving a lecture, in his native Alabama drawl. Things like that bring your innate dialectical prejudices right out and slap you around the face with them.
It's silly, really, thinking you can assess someone's intelligence by their dialect.

Maybe that's the point?
I can't help but think that it would be a very intelligent thing to do, to not immediately reveal your intelligence.
