Prejudice
"Are you prejudiced?" asks StapMyVitals. Have you been a victim of prejudice? Are you a columnist for a popular daily newspaper? Don't bang on about how you never judge people on first impressions - no-one will believe you.

To leave racism aside for a moment
I'm actually quite prejudiced against female comedians. Especially comediennes. They're just not funny.
Now, of course there are a few exceptions to that rule. Shappi Khorsandi, Sarah Millican, Isy Suttie… I'm sure there are more that don't come to mind immediately. The worst example is Jo Brand. How many times do you need to be told, mentioning your period isn't funny. I'm not being squeamish here, it's just not a joke.
I go to a lot of comedy nights and seeing a female name I don't recognise on the lineup is grounds to reconsider going that night.
EDIT: Put some links in for the forrins around here. Beware, Jo Brand's is crude and unfunny.

Being from across the water,
I've never heard of any of the comediennes you mentioned. That said, I'm still certain that they're funnier than Ellen Degeneres.

It's not just me then.
An awful lot of female comics take the "Men are stoopid, Periods are awful, hooray for chocolate." route.
Strangely enough, this does not help me engage with their material.

I'm firmly with you here
There's something about the delivery and subject matter that means I just don't find most of them funny. I love my comedy and am a firm believer that females should step away from the mic .... Just listen to Flywheel, Shyster & Flywheel and try and imagine women performing it.
And yes, Jo Brand is as funny as anal cancer

So what you're saying is 'female comedians aren't funny, unless they are actually funny'?

Yup.
And Shazia Mirza.
And Gina Yashere.
And, let's be honest, Omid Djalili, too.
I appreciate they have to do somegags about their background, just the same as Irish comics have to acknowledge they're Irish, bald comics have to mention being bald, fat comics have to do fat gags, etc. But only these guys seem to have built their whole career on being Indian/Pakistani/Nigerian/Iranian.
