This is a question Question of the Week suggestions

Each week we ask a question. The idea is to generate material that's:

* interesting to read, i.e. we won't get bored of reading the answers after about 10 of them
* not been asked on this site before
* fun to answer

What would you like to ask? (We've left this question open - so feel free to drop in ideas anytime.)

It's a steal! Sort of.
Thanks to the generous policy of the Tesco supermarket chain, where they refund 'double the difference' if something you are charged for is marked at a lower price on the shelf, I've managed to get a free bottle of aftershave (advertised at half-price on the shelf, charged full price).

What outstanding compensation/bargain grabbing opportunities have you earnt from?

We all love a good deal. What the best?

In Comet
We were in Comet and bought a new VCR (this was some years back). We also picked up a new toaster and a kettle. My wife was at the till and came over with a matching kettle / toaster pack. The till woman cancelled the kettle and toaster and didn't ring through the replacement. That saved us £56

Tescos
I think I read somewhere that they have stopped that particular policy now.

As a student about 10 years ago..
.. the local Sainsburys used to have offers that the computer would apply even if the item was "yellow ticketed" (marked down at the end of the day for nearing its expiry). If you put two "two for one" items through, it would refund you the full price of one, no matter what price you actually paid for them.

By careful use of this, I have actually been paid, allbeit only a couple of pence to take their food away. Had to make sure it was combined with other stuff to avoid a positive overall balance, but dead handly if you're an impoverished student.
