Crackhouseceilidhband asks: Has anyone ever been nice to you, out of the blue, for no reason? Have you ever helped an old lady across the road, even if she didn't want to? Make me believe that the world is a better place than the media and experience suggest

Only it turns out I'd been a bit of a twat and turned up an entire day late as I had a ticket for a flight that did in fact leave on the Tuesday.
Despite having an incompetent fool in front of her, the lady went out of her way to put me on the next flight at no extra charge and even went as far as to say that 'It happens all the time' which I seriously doubt.
Being nice to nice people is easy. Being nice to complete idiots like me is something special.

I once made an online booking and mistakenly booked the return flight for a year later than I wanted. I turned up and presented my ticket to fly home to discover I was 12 months early. They made me buy another ticket, and when I got on the plane 20% of seats were free. I was not impressed and should have made an issue out of it.

I did pretty much the same thing a couple of years later but realised my fuck up in time to pack, rearrange a lift, get 3 points put on a friends license and check in with 15 minutes to spare.
Doesn't sound much worse?
I was flying out to my own wedding.

but my entry visa would have expired at midnight so Australian customs would not have let me in, and insisted I fuck off back to the UK.
When I went through at Sydney with about an hour to spare the official said 'Cutting it a bit fine aren't you?' to which I replied 'you have no idea.'
