Valentine's Day
Our first one as a couple. I received a card with a dirty thumbprint in it (he was a marine engineer).

His nephew's girlfriend asked me that evening if I'd liked the card she'd chosen. Apparently he'd been "too busy" to go and choose one himself - too busy playing with his remote control cars.

Why did I let that relationship go on for five years? It all ended in tears.

My mate is an engineer, acts about the same age.
his Mrs tells him not to gets cards or do any of that stuff as he is shit at it.

rips the utter piss out of him when he can fix stuff.
She may have different expectations as all his distractions lets her get on wit what she wants to do.

I got revenge the following year - I bought a very big, very pink, very girly valentine's balloon. You know the kind of thing, all bows and kisses everywhere - and had it delivered to his workshop.

I've forgotten/not found time to buy a Valentine's Day card. Luckily Mrs. Smale keeps all the cards I give her and a previous card I had bought had a separate insert, meaning I could add a new insert with some new words, and she never noticed. Or at least never told me.
