This is a question Rubbish Towns

I once went to Basildon. It was closed, I got chased by a bunch of knuckle-dragged yobs until I was lost in a maze of concrete alleyways and got food poisoning off pie. Tell us about the awful places you've visited or have your home.

Thanks to SpankyHanky for the suggestion

Here’s a thing,

I was in Hatfield yesterday for the first time in about 20 years. Despite spending most of my formative years there, and only moving 5 miles away I’ve not once been back to the place…until yesterday.

I was accompanying an 78 year old relative to the doctors. For 5 weeks or so he’d been suffering from shortness of breath, even when resting, and had lost a stone in weight. He had a chest x-ray and been told to expect the results in a 10 days or so. However, just 2 days later he gets a call from the doctor’s saying come and see us RIGHT NOW, we need to discuss your X-ray results.

So there I am in the waiting room, sitting next to the poor fella who’s about to be told he has lung cancer, trying to make small talk to keep his mind off the impending date with the doctor. As my chat dried up Hatfield came to the rescue. A woman staggered into the surgery complaining of being in pain and started rolling around on the floor repeating the words

“pain killers pain killers”.

She gave a false name and date of birth

“pain killers pain killers”

More rolling around on the floor, and then sat up and clicked her fingers at the receptionists when she though she wasn’t getting the attention she thought she deserved

“pain killers”

After being told there’d be a 3 hour wait to se a doctor she called 999 “because the queue is tool long”. Class. I’ve not seen an ambulance crew that un-impressed before.

This junkie trying to scam some morphine kept us entertained for a good hour. God bless you Hatfield.

Too finish the tale. The usual doc was out and the replacement didn’t know anything about the appointment, didn’t have the x-rays and complained that he hates it when that happens as it makes HIM look stupid…yeah doc it’s all about you. When I suggested he found out what was going on he complained about how busy he was and said I should take the old fella home and they’d be in contact in due course. Fucking typical lazy incompetent NHS wankers.

Lets just say I rather forcibly suggested they tried a bit harder, and after a whole 2 minutes effort they found the X-rays and results. Lung infection – nasty but not fatal, looks like the old bugger’s not finished yet. Hooray!

You ungrateful spoiled brat.
Yeah, we're all the same us lazy incompetent NHS wankers. As an NHS worker who puts in plenty of unpaid hours for my elderly patients including little DIY jobs if they're desperate, even though I really shouldn't and have very little time anyway, can I just add go fuck yourself? Cunt. Typical anonymous internet forum poster, hasn't got the balls to complain in person so bravely does so on here. Go to Africa and work like me, see how bad they've got it, and mmmm shut your fucking mouth.

Ha!
Yes you're right. the terrified old man should have been sent home cos the doc couldn't be aresd to go to the next room and look for a file.

The NHS is riddled with useless wankers who fuck-up the efforts of the good people.

If there’s an activity in the NHS that needs a chain of 5 people to complete the task, you can just about guarantee it'll get fucked up along the way. It doesn't mean all 5 are useless.

So, no not EVERY person in the NHS is lazy or incompetent, but enough are to make the effect typical of the organisation. From your post I’m guessing you’re on of the good ones who does there job. Well done you.

The other trait of NHS workers, the self belief that they’re somehow worthy of respect and praise because of the field they work in. I work extra unpaid hours every day, but I don’t expect a fucking medal or whine about how great I am.

And so,
if someone came on here bleating that everyone who works for your organisation is a lazy incompetent wanker, I'm presuming you'd let that lie then? Forgive me for defending my colleagues won't you. Or not, I'm not arsed either way.

Here we go people, here's my point:

That old man was treated badly, and the recipient and/or his representative absolutely should have complained about it. But when you pretend that his experience is typical of what you can expect from my organisation I'm going to take offence. And I'm going to tell you why you're wrong.

Aren't you rather missing the point
that actually they did complain, and the issue got sorted out quite quickly. Now what would have happened if no complaint was made? The old fella goes home with a nasty lung infection to wait until someone remembers to phone him about the X-rays, and it could have got much worse and ended up with a trip to hospital, or even worse.

And why mention Africa (which is split in many countries you know, you can't just "go to work in Africa" but that's another matter)? What the fuck has the state of the medical profession in a deprived area of the world got to do with the ability of a rich western nation to run a health service?

Get over yourselves.
My point is pretty simple, but well done y'all for missing it! We're infinitely better off in this country, despite the NHS not being perfect, than in many other places simply because we had the fortune to be born here or were able to move here. To the poster who mocked my use of the term Africa: that was really intelligent. I'm pretty sure I don't have to tell you which countries I've worked in, my point stands in all of them. For the record though, South Africa and Botswana.

If you'd come across the multitude of spoilt yet complaining wankers that I do on a daily basis, you too would be sick of the people who have the most pretending they have it tough. You don't. Cheers!

I bet you all complain when you've got to wait 30 mins at the doctors. Bless, life is tough here innit....

soooo
You really are an amazing self righteous dumb cunt.

Hold your horses
it's a bit late for you to suddenly try and play the "Get over yourselves" card. You're the one who came in with the hysterical reaction to the OP.

I don't want to write too much since you clearly don't have that good an attention span. I was the poster who mocked your catch all use of the continent of Africa, I thought you might have remembered this since you were replying to my post. But you are right, you don't have to tell me where you've worked, indeed I would go so far as to say I don't have the slightest interest of where you have or haven't worked since it has no bearing on this discussion.

Your premise that we should not criticise anything since elsewhere there are people worse off is so obviously ridiculous that I'm not even sure where to start.

Let's look at this: "pretending they have it tough. You don't." If the old guy in the post had died as a result of a lazy locum, I think he would have been justified in describing his situation as more than a little "tough".

The healthcare system in this country has billions and billions of pounds pumped into it. It works very well in some ways, I have nothing but good things to say about the NHS as a concept, I think universal healthcare paid for at a national level and free at the point of access is just the most wonderful thing.

But, the system has some serious problems. Personally I have an excellent doctor less than 100m from my house, if I need to see him I phone up and can get an appointment in a day or two, if it's really urgent, I have seen them the same day. But I know lots of people who need to wait weeks for an appointment to see their GP.

This isn't a good thing at all, the services available across the country ought to be equal. I don't like the term "postcode lottery", but it is a bit ridiculous where people who pay the same amount of tax but live in different places get differing levels of service.

I'm kind of drifting on the point I'm trying to make, which is that you ought to drink yourself a nice tall glass of chill the fuck out and stop whining, and if you're going to post retorts, try and make them well thought out.
