This is a question Rubbish Towns

I once went to Basildon. It was closed, I got chased by a bunch of knuckle-dragged yobs until I was lost in a maze of concrete alleyways and got food poisoning off pie. Tell us about the awful places you've visited or have your home.

Thanks to SpankyHanky for the suggestion

The Wirral - (not the posh side)
So many towns, so many plastic scousers, I've lived in loads of places on the Wirral some make Winsford look possibly idyllic!

Places such as:

Bromborough - With delightful nightclubs as the Ritzy and Channel 5 with their mirrored dance floors.

Higher Bebbington - Where the locals thought they where posh when their post codes changed to 'CH' from 'L' meaning they were suddenly part of Cheshire.

New Brighton - Clubs like; The Chelsea where people were left for dead by bouncers outside.

Birkenhead - My God, where do you start? The roller skate rink says it all really.

Wallasey/Liscard - I'm shuddering just thinking about that place, it must have 4 cashconverters or similar!

And finally: Rock Ferry and New Ferry - They have/had a pub called the Abbotsfort, where you had to be invited in as a guest before you could set foot in the door. I left the area after hearing gunfire, thought it was a bit too much.

Obviously i'm going back a few years here, but in all honesty I can't see it having changed in the slightest.

Worked there in my auditor days.

As a Wirralian born and raised,
you obviously have a different idea to 'shit' than most of the nation.

Yes, the Ritzy was (it closed down a few years ago) shite, but compared to some what you see in some towns it was a paragon of civilisation.

Higher Bebington? Its a bog-standard quiet suburb FFS. Its about as inoffensive as an accountant trying to keep his head down and not attract attention and is a nice enough place to live.

Yes Rock/New Ferry and Wallasey and New Brighton are scall infested scumholes and yes Birkenhead is like Beirut on a bad night (hence why anyone with a brain hops over the water on a Friday/Saturday night) but as someone who's seen some of the worst other cities in the North-West have to offer as an area its really not too bad.

I can still go out and get a decent pint without getting attacked in enough areas on the Wirral for it not to be a bother, as long as you're not daft enough to wander into the visually obvious shit parts you're fine. I suspect the same goes for half the entries on this QotW.

is that not what a 'I' pretty much wrote??
anyway, yes there as some nice places to drink etc on the Wirral as i'm sure there are in all the towns that have been slated this week...
I've spent many an evening in the Tut n Shive and seen some excellent bands in stairways to, all I was doing was pointing out the other sides as the qotw suggested, don't take it to heart mate, this is the interwebs!

Not taking it to heart, there's some bad bits as you pointed out,
but mentioning Higher Bebington in a list of shit towns really doesn't support your argument as its mediocre at worst. Like I said, many many worse places to be and when reading about some of the absolute post-apocalyptic hellholes on offer this week it really doesn't seem that bad in comparison (except the North End obviously).

fair point
i take it you're from round there then?

Edit: balls, i forgot about the north end, i'll let you do the honours if you want?

I am.
The North End is one of those places I've never hung around in just passed through on my way out of(for obvious reasons) so have no specific tales, apart from seeing generic scratters walking round in their pyjamas at 2pm alongside random scalls with their trackies tucked in their argyll socks drinking Special Brew. I've never dared go there ar night.

Unfortunately i have no direct tales either
mainly due to being told by Gary Sanderland to steer clear (he was one of our mates dads mates or something like that anyway) so seeing as we figured he knew what he was on about, we did.

Where did/do you frequent?

Tap
your talking utter baloney.

Ive lived in a few places across the UK, the wirral is by far the best.

I live in Bromborough, for you to base the entire basis of how good a town is by a club that closed down 10 yrs ago, and was based on the outskirts in a retail park is laughable.

The rest of the ones you pointed out are also tedious, with the only one i would agree with is brikenhead - but again only in small pockets and what would only be a true relection of a suburban town to a major city.

I can only assume you do live on the wirral, and havent tried anywhere else yet... try sheffield... then try manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Leeds. All with higher crime rates, and council tax rates.

Go figure.
