Surely not the only one...
Mistaking "Home clothes day" for fancy dress. Cue me turning up to a playground teeming with kappa tracksuit clad five year olds: I was dressed as Robin Hood.
Tights and all.

I forgot non-uniform day once, but it pales in comparison to your experience.

I did the same thing
I'm still adamant that someone phoned every kid and told them it was just "home clothes day" but forgot to tell me.
I turned up in a cyberman costume. A, quite frankly, abysmal cyberman costome. In 1996, about 8 years after the series had ended and before the TV-movie had been concieved.
Even worse, the cheap-ass material gave me a rash so I ended up changing into my school poloshirt + sweatshirt but keeping the gloves on to hide my disfigured hands.
My 3-fingered, slightly sparkly silver gloves.
That wasn't a fun day.
