This is a question Spoilers

The Hedgehog From Hell says: "I shared a house in England with a couple of Germans in 1999. I was watching Star Trek: Deep Space 9 on BBC2. One came into the room and saw Jadzia Dax on the screen and said 'Oh! Is she still alive? You're really far behind in this country.' What's been ruined for you, and how? Apart from QOTW, obviously"

If you don't want to know the scores, please...

go fuck your own face! Cos you haven't got a cat in hells chance of managing to find the remote, change the channel or make yourself both deaf and blind in the split second before the BBC News bell-end takes an unestimable amount of pleasure in ruining it for you.

Oh I hear you on this one...

I've lost count of the amount of times where I have had to resort to the old 'eyes shut, hands-over-the-ears, shouting 'LA LA LA LA LA' for 2 minutes or so over the BBC news' routine :(

It's on the same channel FFS! You'd think it'd be in their best interests to just say: 'If you want to know the scores, watch the fucking programme that is coming up next!

Don't watch whatever programme it is that spoils whatever score it is that you don't want to know
I know sportball fans have a reputation for being thick as absolute fuck but this one seems like a total no-brainer

Ah, but when you Sky+ / V+ or whatever...

For some godforsaken reason they include that bit of the news beforehand! Even when you hit the fast forward you can see it pop up on the screen. It's like the BBC are deliberately being cuntish.

Fair enough.
I'll admit I've never watched whatever programme it is that spoils the score of whatever game it is. Or, any sport at all, really.

The news
It's called 'The News'. On BBC.

I fully understand what's likely to happen but that doesn't stop me from being an indignant drunk if I've returned from the pub and got my timings wrong though!

Worse, they only even bother with this warning for football
I like Formula 1. Sometimes I can't watch the race until later, so I have to try to avoid the results. Not helped by the news changing to a picture behind the newsreader saying "Schumacher Wins", before he's even opened his mouth. No warning, no consideration, no chance of missing it.

Gits!

They hardly ever do this with the rugby
Mostly because they either show the games live, so the news is on immediately after the match.

Or they don't have the rights to show highlights, so there's no "Match of the Day" on after to spoil.

Altogether a more civilised situation, and yet another demonstration that rugby is a much better sport than soccer, which seems to be exclusively geared to the needs of thickie thugs.

This does seem to be a totally unnecessary phenomenon that has recently appeared.

In the old days they would always give you plenty of warning and merely show the results on screen which were easily avoided by looking at the ceiling for 15 seconds.

I'd find it hard to believe that there were lots of complaints from blind or partially sighting football fans who were really keen to know the results but who didn't want to see MOTD.
