based upon books previously written, frequently fail to meet the viewers' expectations. Particularly if the viewers have read the books prior to watching the movie.

Off the top of my head, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo violates this rule,
in so much as I enjoyed both the book and the film. Same goes for Let The Right One In. And Kick Ass, come to think of it.
