The following conversation happened with a student today:
"You know last week you told us about those dog-sized house-elephants that people keep as pets?"

"ummm...yes?"

"You made that up, didn't you?"

"..."

Turns out she googled it later. About 3 or 4 others were also disappointed

Well..
I think it's mentioned in 'a short history of nearly everything' or some such sceince history book, that there used to be (i.e. now extinct) wee elephants on Malta, and that they would have been "The very devil to stop from getting on the sofa"
