This is a question Amazing displays of ignorance

Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic tells us: "My dad's friend told us there's no such thing as gravity - it's just the weight of air holding us down". Tell us of times you've been floored by abject stupidity. "Whenever I read the Daily Express" is not a valid answer.

I
have a colleague who cannot tell if something is small, or far away!

Yours

T. Crilley.

Google isn't helping me.
Is that the man who discovered that depth perception is learned and not innate? I'm thinking of the man who took a pygmy friend out of the jungle for the first time, and the latter thought that some distant cattle were insects.

I'm worried now I'll get yelled at for explaining the joke, but I think it's justified for something that's proving this difficult to look up.

Apart from the Father Ted thing
(which is well worth watching), I don't recognise the story you have there. But have a look at this - www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5507789 . It appears that it is innate, but still has to have the right circumstances to develop, ie eyes that swivel in a useful fashion.

Oo, how interesting. I read something like that in New Scientist - maybe it was the same woman.

Kudos . . .
. . . firstly, for bringing up one of my all time favourite moments of Father Ted, but doubly for having a Bob Calvert / Hawkwind reference in your sig: you are definitely my type of B3tan.
