Im currently on holiday, spending a month in Yorkshire.
ok so its not Cannes but I'm enjoying seaside fish and chips and trips out into the stunning moors and dales.
If anyone has any recommendations for a jolly jaunt in the north york moors area please let me know.
I might even get to try the Teesside delicacy of a parmo

Pickering for North York Steam Railway to Whitby. Don't stop at 'Heatbeat' town, there's nowt there! Robin Hoods Bay is also a fav but i've not been since 80's so it might be all touristy now with coach parks and the like.
Beaches are best. Go to a place called Reighton, best beach around - quiet and peaceful. Walk south heading for Flamborough Head and try find the 2 ship wrecks at low tide....
Avoid Teeside

I worked in Hartlepool for a bit. There's nothing redeemable about that area at all. No offense to smoggies. I always speed up on the A19 flyover "Get through it quicker!"

Still got plenty of family in Stockton and Thornaby, so I'm usually down there every year or two. Yarm is a cracking night out.

Not for the bollocks about a shit program, but if you move past all that shit there is a nice waterfall to be seen.

The images of Falling Foss on google look great but the waterfall I was thinking of is more enclosed, less sunlight. If you park in the large public car park, walk past all the heartbeat spazztackkery, then there is a lane through fields which leads down to the river which you have to walk along to get to the waterfall. Not pensioner or wheelchair friendly. Two plusses.

thanks, steam train to whitby sounds good, I've been to Goathland, there was a folk day on so wasn't bad at all.
Also been to Robin Hood Bay.
I'll look into Reighton, never heard of it before

The coastline between Staithes and Scarborough is rugged, scenic and wonderful, with tall cliffs, woodlands and great pubs. Ravenscar is a particular favourite of mine. The cliffs are full of fossils (130 million year old ammonites). You can do a really nice walk between Ravenscar and Robin Hood's Bay. RHB isn't that touristy, actually.
The moorland around Rosebery Topping is stunning, too.

I walked a good part of the Cleveland Way many years ago, Saltburn to Staithes was good.
I do love the rugged coast around there
