This is a question Kids say the shittiest things

Smudge the Demon asks: Have your kids - or anyone else's - come out with something that provoked extreme laughter, embarrassment, fear or outrage? Tell us your little darlings' memorable sayings. It's like Take a Break's letters page, only with more swearing

My daughter shouted "I wish I had a better Daddy!" at me yesterday
Because I wouldn't let her have sweets for breakfast. It shouldn't have hurt but it did.

You monster!

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 13:20, closed)
I know.
But I'm going to see a counsellor and really try to mend my ways

Don't worry.
One day she'll grow up and flock the nest. Then she'll realise she can eat what she likes without being told off.

I had a pie for breakfast this morning.

~Well done sir
Was it a Greggs breakfast pie?
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 14:16, closed)

(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:15, closed)
Agreed
I haven't stepped foot in a Greggs for two years. Basically cos i was in danger of not being able to fit through the door. Still miss that sausage and bean pastry goodness though
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:54, closed)
they produce epic bum gasses too
win win IMHO
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 16:01, closed)
Nah, steak and gravy from a local bakery.
Greggs strikes me as a pie shop for people who don't really like pies.

A bit like Snow Patrol and music, I suppose.

Steak and Gravy is good
I propose Steak and Kidney as king of pies though or meat and potato for those who thinks the first one is offal
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 15:55, closed)
arf!!
you know your pies you have indeed earned your moniker

Kidney is fucking terrible stuff though kidneys filter piss and they taste like they filter piss. bleeeegh
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 16:04, closed)
I have a weakness for the two that i mentioned
As my gran used to make both when i was a kid and i have yet to taste a pie as nice. Her apple pies rocked too. My moniker is due to the fact that i looked like i ate them all

If you like cooking the Hairy Bikers pie book is excellent.
I've only made a Madras out of their curry book but that was pretty good as well (i've made better out of the Kris Dillon book, but that required hours of prep, this took 20 mins in all).
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 16:21, closed)
I've just bought a pie cook book
To give it a whirl for myself. Had a go at a traditional fish pie which turned out pretty good. I am kind of limited when i can cook though as i am on a diet and pie is generally not calorifically friendly. I save it for special occasions.

Meat and potato is good.
Some of the bakeries Sheppard's Pies, in a small pie case with a mash topping. They're good but the lack of lid means they can be structurally weak. I'd advise putting in a roll if you don't want to spill it.

They also do lasagne pies up here.

I miss the Midlands though; there was a chippy round there that did balti pies, but the balti was takeaway standard in its own right, rather than the usual "curry sauce" jobs.

Pieminister in Bristol
they do a pie called moo & blue ...steak & stilton it's fucking incredible
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 16:08, closed)
That sounds awesome
Long way for me to go for a pie but i am trying to persuade my other half to go to Bristol for a night on the piss so will look for this place for the inevitable hang over cure.
Conversely if you ever find yourself around Sheffield look for Hendersons relish on the shelves of the supermarkets. You will never find a better accompaniment to pies anywhere else.
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 16:13, closed)
google them
they have a shop in Amsterdam apparently ;)

they'll delever
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 16:20, closed)
That does look awesome
There minimum order makes buying online a tad dear for me though

call your self the pieman?
I'm disappointed in you seriously disappointed :(

you have a freezer?

BTW I love the pie thread hijack ;)
(, Wed 29 May 2013, 10:33, closed)
I do have a freezer
Thing is i am on a diet so a pie is a rare treat for me. I can't justify spending £40 on a box of pies thats going to be sat there for an age taking up room. Trust me i would dearly love to indulge but i just can't. If i was in Bristol on the other hand it would be rude not to try one.

On the plus side my girlfriends nan makes a pie for us every now and again as a special treat and she does them with meat, potato and kidney in them. The lady is in her late 80's, cooks everything from scratch and is a gastronomic goddess. The only person i knew who could cook a pie like that was my own gran.

Pieminister are gods!
They've kept me alive for several years of Bestival!

You Bristol lot are well lucky; having nights where Brewdog and Pieminister have their wares in the same building!
(, Tue 28 May 2013, 16:14, closed)
that is an excellent pie
Pal of mine started the square pie company. They are ok but not amazing

Theres a place called Trotters
Farm shop on the main road to Scarborough. They do a pork pie which is stunning. Normal pork pie on the bottom stuffed full of nicely cooked pork but instead of a crust top they use an apple sage and onion stuffing crumble. Delicious to eat warm with all the jelly still melting....

Feel the pie love.

If you ever venture to glamorous Lancaster, be sure to seek out Potts Pies. They're really rather splendid.
