This is a question Thrown away: The stuff you loved and lost.

Smash Wogan writes, "we all love our Mums, but we all know that Mums can be cunts, throwing out our carefully hoarded crap that we know is going to be worth millions some day."

What priceless junk have you lost because someone just threw it out?

Zero points for "all my porn". Unless it was particularly good porn...

Old people are rubbish.
I've just been informed that my collection of old skateboarding decks has been destroyed by fire.

Not some awful accident, no, my folks - who agreed I could keep my ever growing collection at their place less than a year ago - have burnt the lot. Somewhere in the region of 70 decks, costing me from about a fiver to almost £200 for a signed Steve Caballero vintage deck. I had a fantastic collection of decks, everything from H-Street Danny Way thur Natas, all of the Bones Brigade and Gator decks and even some original Santa Cruz models, all in mint condition, never used.

The reason they were at my folks house is 'cos once I get my new place, (on my own), I was going to turn the hallway into a bit of a feature with the decks hung on the wall (I'm a bit sad and like the artwork on them).

My old dears reaction when I started shouting? - Never mind, you were never going to ride a skaeboard again, if it means that much to you, I'll replace them.

I've just been back to her with some rough costings on what it's likely to cost to replace them all with similar quality pieces.

She cried and is probably still crying now.

And yes, I will eat into any future inheritence I might get by ensuring her and my old man to replace them as and when they become available.

Fingers crossed they haven't binned my selection of G Bones wheels and Bullets. I wanted to make some door handles out of them.

Mullered is angry.

UPDATE! Slightly less angry to discover there are still 'four or five' that haven't been burnt. (No, she can't identify them, but I think one of them might be a Mike Vallely as the woman is muttering about there being an elephant on one of them)

shit!
That story made me weep. I remember how I felt when I thought my dad binned my Ron Allan (with gullwings and Red G-Bones), and the relief I felt when I found it in the meter cupboard.

H street Ron Allan was my first deck too
With gullwings no less! I had lovely cockroach mini ramps, followed by santa cruz bullets on that badboy.

No idea what happened to it, haven't even checked to see if I've still got it, and it must be 10 years since I had a skate.

Thats rough luck

My first 'Pro' deck when I skated
Was a Tommy Guerrero - When I started spending my own money on boards, that was the first vintage one in my collection.

I've still got a full set of Santa Cruz Slimeballs, some really shit pacer Ghouls and possibly some acid drops as well.

I had some slimeballs!
Although I think they were factory seconds as they didn't have colour graphics on them, just the black outline of the design.

Don't forget to turn them round though, it'll reduce coning!!

An old plank on wheels is still a plank on wheels - just with more old.

Vintage skateboards
are made from wood from genuine recycled Victorian cabinets. The true connoisseur, of course, is never seen without a stovepipe hat.
